My sister Danielle, a second grade teacher, just sent me a list of the "50 teacher picked all time best children's books." Reading over the titles just made me smile, it was like remembering old friends. I am generally a very uncreative person--most of the time I see the world in a straightforward way, have fairly normal dreams, color inside the lines, and think inside of the box. Anything creative I do is in some form copied from someone else. But, I'm so glad the world is made up those who have really vivid imaginations and can share their stories with the rest of us. I think a quality children's book is one of the most difficult things to write because you have so few words to work with. A child's attention span is only so long. And yet a few simple phrases can teach them so much--and just make them laugh (or make me laugh at something my kids don't quite understand yet!). So this is why, thanks to the deeply discounted Scholastic book order forms Danielle passes along to me, I will continue to create a home library for my kids. If my gene pool didn't give them any creativity, at least I will have not failed in exposing them to some of the greatness out there. And, it's just fun to watch some of my favorites become their favorites (although I could do without Ethan's attachment to books on trucks).
If anyone wants the list e-mailed to them just let me know.

I love children's books. Sometimes I feel guilty buying toys and other junk for Layla when we are on such a tight budget, but I never regret buying books. Layla's latest favorite is "Go Dog Go." Do you remember that one?
I would like a copy of that book list when you get a minute.
Also, we saw Wicked in Chicago. I loved it too. Layla and I listen to the songs at home all the time. I am glad you got to see it.
Hooray for books! Don't you love scholastic? If you are ever around Phoenix during the warehouse sale, I will take you-the books are all 50% off! It's sometimes even better than the Scholastic fliers!!
I am such a fan of books, and luckily so are my kids! I would love the list. I LOVE your blog!
I want the list as well. You are such a great writer. Have so much fun in Spain!! Can't wait for your blogs. I absolutely loved Wicked as well...amazing
Audra, when you are home and recuperated from your big journey I would love to have a copy of this list emailed to me. Hope you have very happy kid-free travels!!!
